ART FAUX PAS

I know i know.. it's kind of a faux pas to take photos at an art gallery or show.. but where would other designers get inspiration from? We constantly 'host' other images on our blogs etc and they are purely for inspirational ideas. No worries, I don't intend to copy the prints or art pieces to screenprint them on some shirt or something. But I LOVE art!. Love Love all the bright pops of colours! I think as artsy people, there is no way to get around not having colour in whatever we create. and you can tell how it's so interlinked, the colours, the mood,.. you see an exhibit in like the Whitney and then suddenly you see all the same references popping up on the runway not too long later. There's definitely a great connection between the 2 worlds, isn't there?

I've also decided that when I'm a little older and more established, I'm going to be an art collector! But yes, why not start now?

Actors and Fashion

Leaving a post about The Golden Globe Awards behind, I decided to go on with the same theme on this one, and talk about the long "relationship" between the Film industry and Fashion.
Both industries were since always intimately connected and, nowadays, that union still lasts.
Since the 20's the Fashion industry finds some of their great icons in the Film Industry, in a time when visual communication was very important film stars rapidly became part of the fashion royalty.
Women everywhere wanted to be like their big screen muses, the hair, the clothes and also the make-up, and even men followed attentively the examples given by the masculine film stars such as Cary Grant and Clark Gable. Men all over the world were wearing a moustache made popular by Clark Gable.
Film Icons as well as Fashion icons, Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn were very important to make popular and more acceptable for women to wear trousers. And also, Louise Brooks hairstyle was copied by women throughout the world, and is used even today.
Later, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Marylin Monroe and Brigitte Bardot were also part of the group of actresses that enchanted generations and generations in and out of the screens.
Nowadays this "association" between the two industries remains unflinching, with actresses on the cover of fashion magazines and walking on notorious runway shows.
Vogue US is known for their celebrity covers, for example, with Meryl Streep as their January issue cover. Many actors and actresses shine on fashion editorials for various magazines alongside with the most brilliant models of our time.
Is with this in mind that I wanted to show you some of the most recent collaborations between Fashion and Film.
After Tom Ford's unforgettable runway show for Spring 2011 with Julianne Moore and Laura Hutton walking the runway, the latest Prada menswear runway show for Fall 2012, counted with the renowned names of Tim Roth, Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman and Willem Dafoe and the younger ones Emile Hirsch and Jamiel Bell to embody with perfection the role of models.
And, on the February issue of W magazine, 19 actors and actresses are celebrated for their talents showed on their last performances, all representing characters struggling inside, in a complex web of fears and desires, on an article/editorial photographed by Mario Sorrenti called Best Performances.

Golden Globes 2012 Hits and Misses

One of the most expected evenings arrived yesterday, The Golden Globe Awards.
I really tried to stay awake during the whole ceremony, but starting at 1am I have to be honest that by the middle of it I dozed off. But as soon as I woke up I ran to my computer to see who were the rest of the winners and, of course, the outfits that were the centre of attentions last night.
I know that many blogs are being flooded by red carpet outfits and you must already been thinking "Oh no, another one" but being a fashion, cinema and series passionate I couldn't help to comment on a event that unites the three.
The Golden Globe Awards are like a preview of the Oscars, although it awards not only the Film Industry but also TV, many of the nominees and winners of one are almost certainly the same as the other.
Therefore, George Clooney on The Descendants, Brad Pitt on Moneyball and Ryan Gosling on The Ides of March are some of the favourites to be the Best Actor nominees of the Oscars. and if it all goes like the Golden Globes the winner will be George Clooney. I haven't seen the film yet because it's not yet on the cinema here but it looks promising, as for the interpretations of the other two, I think either one would deserve it, although I have to say my favourite is Ryan Gosling. We just have to wait and see.
Adding to the Best Actor Award, the film also received the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture in Drama where it was nominated alongside Moneyball and The Ides of March, which I strongly recommend everyone seeing,  and also Hugo that is likely to transport us to a magical world, directed by Martin Scorsese who won the Award for Best Director, and War Horse.
Michelle Williams, elegant and adorable in her Jason Wu dress, won the night with her award for Best Actress in a Comedy with her performance as the iconic Marilyn Monroe.
This is the time when cinemas are full of good films to see, when it seems like there's not enough days in a week to see them all.
Going through to Television, the great winner of the night was the series Homeland with the award for Best Drama TV Series and Best Actress on a Drama Tv Series, with Claire Danes on the role of Carrie Mathison. Also awarded by her performance on Tv was Kate Winslet on Mildred Pierce, as Best Actress on a Mini Series.
But the event isn't all about the nominees and the winners but also about the people who attend it and, obviously, what they wear.
It's almost impossible not to admire or criticize some of the choices of wardrobe celebrities make and, because of that, I came up with a list of who I considered were the best dressed of the ceremony and the ones that I don't really know what went on in their minds.

So here are the Hits

Emma Stone wearing Lanvin, she has been a non stop hit on red carpet lately.

Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci, one to watch in terms of style.

Claire Danes in a backless dress by J Mendel, some might say safe I say great.

This lady never seizes to impress, Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann.

Always true to her style, Michelle Williams in Jason Wu.

Mila Kunis beautiful in Dior, of course.

And now the Misses, the DON'T try this at home or anywhere, please!

Dianna Agron in Giles. I really like her but what was she thinking?

Lea Michele in Marchesa. What's up with the Glee kids this ceremony?

Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen. Starting with the hair and ending in the dress.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, the eternal Buffy, in Monique Lhuillier.

Nicole Kidman and her thousand plastics in Versace, I used to really like her and thought she had a unique beauty but now...

And Erin Wasson, I'm not even going to say anything about this one.

Qual foi a vossa preferida?
Which one was your favourite?

The new Kate Moss and Mini Fashion

Agora a nova mini modelo a chamar todas as atenções é a filha do ex membro do grupo de rock Oasis, Noel Gallagher.

After talking about the fashion industry's fascination for sisters, it's time to talk about the huge influence children have on it too.

During the year that has just passed there was much talk about the role of children on the fashion world, and much of that talk was due to the well known Thylane Blondeau, the mini model of only 10 years old, and her work, that many wondered if it was age appropriate or not, like the Vogue editorial that shocked the world.
Now the new mini model that's on the centre of attention is the daughter of Noel Gallagher, former member of rock band Oasis. Anais Gallagher, with only 11 years old, was already photographed by Mario Testino and many compare her to a young Kate Moss. Is she the next Kate Moss instead of half sister Lottie Moss?
Anais has already signed a contract with Select Model Management, the agency of models like Agyness Deyn and Natasha Poly, and it's sure to give us something to talk about from now on.

Skipping the studios and editorials to the street, even there kids are making success.
Now we not only talk about a list of the best dressed women or men, but also the list of  best dressed and most influential children. And, some, are even photographed by Street Style expert Scott Schuman, the Sartorialist.
Style doesn't come after a certain age, it's there since the birth, look at little Harper Seven, Victoria Beckham's daughter, that since she was born has made the top of the best dressed kids in the world lists.
The time when children dressed whatever was more comfortable to play has gone, now some are dressed almost as mini adults, with some of their clothes similar to a grown up's clothes only in smaller sizes, like little trench coats, little leather jackets... And, we have to admit, they look kind of adorable, when it's not over the top, of course.
It's obvious that, in most cases, the parents are the ones to "blame" for this stylish kids, that they are the ones who pass this sense of style to their children since they are born, until it comes to a time when kids themselves want to choose what they wear, and they don't wear just something.
From an early age  they start experimenting with clothes, building their own taste and showing their personalities through the way they dress, teaching some great lessons on style and confidence to many grown ups.
